Leading ROIC Design for Over 20 Years
Valley Oak Semiconductor (VOS) was founded in 1987 by William (Bill) Kleinhans. We have delivered over 150 customized ROICs dedicated for use in infrared and visible image sensors.

Bill Kleinhans, a founding father of infrared focal plane arrays, is responsible for some of the world’s most sensitive and prevalent IR FPAs including: NICMOS, PICNIC, HAWAII-I, and Infrared Laboratories’ industry-leading Ultra Low Noise (ULN) FPA. The goal of the ULN was to exceed the performance of the best SFD technology, which at that time was the Rockwell (now Teledyne), HAWAII, a successor to NICMOS and PICNIC, all three of which Mr. Kleinhans designed. We also designed L-3 VOx microbolometer arrays and a host of image sensors from UV to LWIR.

Long-term Cooperation with Infrared Laboratories
Many of our notable projects were in partnership with Infrared Laboratories. Our Infrared Laboratories/VOS team has been one of the longest standing innovative groups within the infrared imaging and detection industry.

Over the decades working together, our companies have consistently demonstrated the continued innovation needed to deliver infrared imaging technologies to customers. We became a wholly owned subsidiary of Infrared Laboratories in 2008.
